Construction Safety Officer

Qualifications:

There is an exciting opportunity for a talented professional to join our team as a Construction Safety Officer. Reporting directly to the Site Superintendent and Corporate Safety Manager, this person will be responsible for on-site First Aid and general CSO responsibilities found on a high-rise, downtown construction site.

VC Management Inc. typically has 5 projects under construction at any given time, and we build a variety of projects including multi-family residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, civic, Step, Passive House, and green buildings – LEED® certified. CSO Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a First Aid/CSO role, particularly with large scale projects with multiple sub-trades

  • Experience working on multi-family / mixed-use construction projects

  • Current unrestricted OFA3 certification or qualified (and recognized) equivalent training

  • CSO (Construction Safety Officer) certificate

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English

  • Strong documentation capacity with the ability to meet stringent deadlines

  • Able to perform well in critical high stressful situations

  • Ability to multi-task, supervise and give directions to additional workers when required.

  • Must be proficient with technology

  • Reliable transportation means to/from work (for hours of scheduled site work)

  • Available to work flexible hours in a construction site environment

  • Must be physically fit for work regular work duties and capable to perform physical labour work if necessary

  • Must be able to communicate well, with experience in providing safety concerns and direction to trades for compliance to safety program

Roles & Responsibilities
 

Documentation, Reporting and Risk Management

  • Administer safety compliance with OHS requirements

  • Administer First Aid to site personnel

  • Promote a culture of company health and safety policies and procedures

  • Coordinate with WorkSafe BC regarding site-specific injury management

  • Raising health and safety awareness and reporting on key issues, minimize safety risks

  • Attend, participate and/or facilitate safety meetings

  • Perform daily site inspections

  • Identify hazardous areas

  • Erect and maintain temporary handrails/guard rails

  • Provide new worker orientations

  • Ticket for operating machinery such as bobcat/telehandler would be an asset

  • Promote a safe and healthy work environment for all personnel on-site, monitor safety performance, and oversee the Site HSE Coordinator / Construction Safety Officer.

  • Maintain VC Management Inc.'s professional image and keep a clean and organized job site and site office.

  • Dress in a professional manner to keep VC Management Inc’s professional image. This includes wearing the VCM supplied PPE and apparel and to ensure they are kept in good condition or replaced.

  • Supervise activities of suppliers, subcontractors, and sub-trades.
